For our band program’s fundraising campaign this fall, instead of a typical fundraiser where students sell merchandise from a catalog and then deliver it, we are soliciting donations. It’s easier for you, there is no merchandise to pick up and deliver, 100% of the money goes towards the kids, and we can offer better rewards for students who participate.
How It Works
Students simply ask friends and family to make a donation to our school band program. Checks may be written to “VHMS BAND”. Students should fill their contact sheet as they collect donations or contacts. Collected donations must be turned in to Mr. Rodriguez on Friday, October 20th, 2017 (before school, during 1st and 2nd lunch, or after school). Donations are still accepted year-round!

Why Are We Doing This? Doesn’t The Band Receive Funding?
Our band program received $1100 in funding from the school this year--down from $1600 the previous year. That is supposed to cover new concert music (cost about $50 for each piece, and we play 3-4 pieces with each of our 3 bands in 2 concerts each year), repairing equipment and school-owned instruments (last year was over $4500), classroom supplies, percussion accessories (the bass drum mallet was $85, for example), etc.
This fundraiser will help cover these operational cost and replace older equipment. Our greatest need this year is a new storage for instruments and aid in paying for transportation. A quote I received from WengerCorp was $6726.70 for instrument cabinets. Transportation for the last football game was $1400 for two busses. Last years transportation cost was $4060 for our annual trip to Knott’s and Six Flags.
How can I support the band?
1. Donate an amount meaningful to you. Current needs surpass the available school budget. Your help allows us to: TRAVEL TO FESTIVALS, BRING IN SPECIALISTS, SUBSIDIZE PERFORMANCE ATTIRE AND SOLO/ENSEMBLE REGISTRATIONS, AND PURCHASE BADLY NEEDED INSTRUMENTS (LIKE TUBAS & BARITONES).
2. Share this on social media! Facebook, Twitter, etc
Band programs are expensive. We need financial help to create the best, most educational experience for your children. If we all contribute what we can, we can do something incredible together.
